PS. Health care professional writes.I have been a radiographer for 24 years and in this period I have met some very committed health care professionals the attention and care you have exhibited since I first saw you all those weeks ago is right up there with the best of them.
Your patience is unbelievable and your skills and knowledge are fantastic. You provide invaluable help in people's quest to recover from the cruellest of conditions.
PeterI am a 42 year old health care professional who has suffered with anxiety for as long as I can remember. This manifested itself mainly as health anxiety. Approximately three years ago I began to develop intrusive thoughts as part of the anxiety process. I was treated by my GP and a variety of counsellors. I was well for a while but in November of last year I became very unwell with anxiety. I was so unwell I asked my GP to refer me to a clinical Psychologist for treatment. Much to my dismay and considerable stress I heard nothing. In desperation my wife searched the internet for someone suitable to treat me.
She found the web site for sljtrainingandtherapy. From the word go we were treated in a sympathetic and professional manner. Sharon, one of the therapists was busy with a client, but on completion she got straight back to me. I spoke to her and was amazed she agreed to see me straight away. Bearing in mind this was 630 on a Friday night. I had an introductory session where I spoke about my problems and I was immediately impressed by her empathy and knowledge. We agreed to embark on a course of CBT to treat my anxiety and associated problems. Indeed the first session was the very next day.
I have had around ten sessions so far and I feel so much better. My anxiety is on the wane and other areas of my life have dramatically improved due to the CBT and the excellence of Sharon from sljtraining and therapy. The empathy, knowledge and support provided is absolutely second to none. In this day and age where anxiety and depression are major problems, everyone should have access to a service of this quality.
SG writes. The Problem: I began having problems with anxiety when I was around 17, and they eventually surged to a peak by the time I was 21. It was time to do something about it. I was constantly worrying about silly things, and couldn't get such unwanted thoughts out of my head. They caused me a lot of anxiety. Along with that, I had just started my new job, and for the first time in my life started having problems in the social dimension. I was always thinking that people thought I was stupid, and was afraid to interact with my colleagues for the fear of saying something stupid and being perceived as incompetent.
The Solution: I sought help with S & J training and therapy after coming across them online. I had felt that if I did not get a grip on my anxiety, I would not be able to progress as a person and develop into the person that I wanted to become. I started having cognitive behavioural therapy initially once a week, which then slowly moved to once every two weeks.
I think that the most important thing that I learned with the help of CBT is that we all have a choice. We can actually decide how we respond to events and take control of our anxiety, rather than being a victim to it. We can stop, think, and take control. And this was something that I had stopped doing before I sought help. I was letting my anxiety control me, and was unable to realise that ultimately, I am in control. I can decide how to respond to anxiety provoking thoughts.
